And why not check out Ted Rall?

Fri, July 31 - Back From Comic-Con
Pretty much the same as being at Comic-Con, this year, seeing as how it was, as they say, @Home. So let's charge directly at this week's cartoon!

Fri, July 24 - Comic-Con @ Home Part 2
Normally round this time of year I'd be sweating behind a table in the Small Press Area at San Diego Comic-Con, trying desperately to draw sales out of random passersby in the same manner that a freelance dentist might draw teeth. Sadly, this year San Diego Comic-Con has gone virtual on account of plague. No table, no book sales. But there's still lotsa Comic-Con-y goodness to be had, so why not pop over to http://www.comic-con.org/cci/2023/athome and see what's up over there?

Finished? How was it? Did you even go and check it out? It matters not to me if you did or didn't. I'm not your mother. In any case, here's a fun cartoon about "police":

Fri, July 17 - Comic-Con @ Home
So this year San Diego Comic-Con is trying something different: not happening. Ever since it started it hasn't not happened until now, so they're not sure how to handle it. So far the idea seems to be some kind of virtual San Diego Comic-Con. I don't really know all the details right this second.

However, a detail I do know is that I've agreed to do some sketches as part of a fundraiser for the Cartoon Art Museum. So hey, why not click http://www.cartoonart.org/store?category=Comic-Con to bid on one, or some of the amazing other ones done by hot hot artists that people love!

Meanwhile, as you mull over clicking on that big fat fundraising link up there, why not take a brief tour to consider the simple truth of

I'll admit, I had no idea what Juneteenth was until I looked at the 2023 Calendar Keith Knight was kind enough to gift, noticed that it was on there, and looked it up. Then the next day I saw it was an episode title in the first season of Atlanta. So I'm very late to the Juneteenth party, though I can say with confidence I'm still two weeks ahead of the President of the United States.

Anyway, how about a cartoon? Anti in the Key of F

Been a week since last update, and things are looking quite a bit more terrifying. Already it's looking like last week's prediction of a return to normality by March 31 was laughably optimistic. What an exciting fun ride we're all on, with so many twists and turns!

Fri, Mar 13 - Going Viral
Well, I'm back from my Star Trek Cruise (it was fun, thanks for asking!), only to find my adopted home of Seattle in the moist, fleshy grip of a pandemic. Fun! I've been on mandatory Work From Home since I got back Monday night, with the prospect of it being extended at least until March 31. Let's hope this abundance of caution has the desired effect of, y'know, not having everybody drop dead of the plague.

In any case, as noted in exhaustive and exhausting detail two weeks ago, there was no update last week. But I'm back, babies, and that means Bob the Angry Flower cartoons. And you read that letter "s" correctly at the end of the word "cartoon"; this week has plural toons for your consideration!

Fri, Feb 28 - No Update
There's no update! Not this week, of course. This week has an update. It's this! No, I'm talking about next week, a week which will have no angryflower.com update. Why? The reason is, I hope, simple. This time next week, I very much expect to be on a Star Trek Cruise, Star Trek Cruising, where I will have neither the ability nor the inclination to update my web site. Hence me warning folks about it now, a week before then, when I won't be warning anybody of anything, because there will be, as I mention above, no update.

But just because there's no update next week doesn't mean we can't have an update this week, right? Quite! So let us update this week by updating this week to include the following cartoon, a rather dumb one called
Broom Bro
Y'all have fun, now! I certainly intend to!
Sun, Feb 23 - Late!
Yep, it's true, this is a late update, not falling as they almost always do on a Friday, but delayed instead until Sunday. The explanation for the tardiness is simple. This past Thrusday I raced home from work in order to hop a bus up to Vancouver to watch my good friend Keith Knight wrap up shooting on Woke, his upcoming show on Hulu. In all the fuss of packing and grabbing the bus, I forgot to do the week's update. OOP!

Yep, soldiers. Men of war. There sure are a lot of them in that new 1917 movie. Oh, sure, there are parts where there are hardly any soldiers at all. Whole handfuls of minutes go by where there are no more than two soldiers at any one time. But I assure you those minutes are made up for by other minutes in which there are many, many solidiers all at once. Yep. If you're looking for a film which features large variations in the number of soldiers it depicts, you could do far, FAR worse than to see 1917. Trust me!

Hey, dear readers, Happy New Year! It's a bit late, as I just got out of Ford vs. Ferarri (good flick!), so we're gonna have a nother stripped-down update. The good news is that it's got a bunch of cartoons in it!

And finally we'll bring it home with a strip that probably should have been the last strip of last year, but wasn't:

Wed, Dec 18 - Catch Ya later, 20-Teens!
Wow, it's kinda snuck up on me, the idea that next year is 2023. Cool year-name, that. Sleek. Sexy. It's got a sci-fi sheen and yet it's super contemporary at the same time. Lookin' forward to it, even if it's an appalling shitshow! At least we got out of the 20-tens without World War 1: The Reboot. I'm hoping it's because history isn't interested in directly repeating itself, though I'm not sure I'm ready for the wacky twists and turns it has in store. Guess we'll find out, huh?

Okay, quick wrap-up of stuff I liked this year, no particular order:

One Punch Man
Enter the Gungeon
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Spider-Man PS4
Avengers: Endgame (I guess)
The Mandalorian (sorta)
HBO's Watchmen (surprise!)
The Shaggy D.A.
Steven Universe: The Movie
Amazon Prime's The Man in the High Castle
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (really good!)

and of course
Bob the Angry Flower: exciting space adventure! Buy it!

I probably missed some, but there we go, that's a list. MY list. I deliberately excluded people, places and experieces because Jesus, who wants to be here all night? Not me, man. Hell, no.

And so here we have the strip for the last update of the year:
Doc Occam

There will be a bit of a pause on updates until I get back from holidays, but patient readers will be rewarded with a flurry of strips all at once! Or, if you fancy, you can keep up with them as they go live on Gigcity.ca. Do that!

It certainly is loaded to the rafters and then some on mirrors, twins, doubles, duplicates, masks, twos and elevens; it is a thorough doppelgangerama. There's always a tension between horror and ambiguity, and different films and stories handle that tension differently. Us handles its with clear intent, but that doesn't necessarily mean I really grasped it. I kept thinking I was getting an It Follows, but instead I was getting a, well... Us.

At any rate, let's move on, on to the crispy world of cartoons, a world in which we may find ourselves faced at any moment with a terrible

Fri, Mar 22 - Us Indeed?
I don't have much to say this weekend other than to reiterate my suspicion that Jordan Peele's Us will be a goddamned landmark.

Admittedly, I feel this way because I've been heavily advertised such. Yet I've seen a lotta advertising, and I think I can tell the difference between hype and possibility. Am I right? Let's all find out as we flock to theatres to watch Us this weekend!

In other news, my sister Rachel Notley used her power as Premier of Alberta to drop the writ of an Alberta Provincial Election onto a coming Tuesday, April 16. Less than a month! Is this enough time for a campaign? Let's us all find out! I'll be back in Edmonton in the last few days, trying to avoid being put to work in order to earn a spot close and interesting to the 2023 Alberta election. The Premier being my sister is, let's face it, enough to place me in that position. We're not a huge family family but we still acknowledge each other. But doing work? I don't wanna, and hope that all the work is done by the time I get there, so I can just cash in on all the energy around. That's what it was like last time. This time, though, I think it's gonna be a fight right down to the fence and I'll have to get in there and exert.

But of course, it's almost a month away, that time, so in the meantime, that is to say the current time, let's toss a cartoon I drew last week into the mix! It's called

So, I saw Captain Marvel, and I'm not sure how I feel. Or at least, I'm not sure what to say about it. Or rather, I know that I wasn't thrilled by it, but I can't say why, exactly.

Part of it is that I made the mistake of drinking liquids before the movie, to the extent that I had to hop out 15 minutes in and hit the bathroom again. That never helps.

But even putting that aside, I just never quite hit that zing with it. I realize I'm second-guessing myself, cuz I don't want to end up on the same page as the dingdong internet haters, but no part of it matched or even got close to, say, the electricity and power of the No Man's Land sequence in Wonder Woman. Much as it pains me to admit, I got more of a Green Lantern feel off of it, in that Carol starts out as kind of a smarmy test pilot space warrior and ends up as a slightly less smarmy test pilot space warrior, and doesn't really seem to cover much ground in between one and the other. Fury is fun, and the cat jokes are amusing, and the business with the Kree and the Skrull worked a lot better than I thought it might, but overall I'm left a bit flat. Darn it. Maybe I'll feel differently after another viewing where my bladder isn't bugging me.

Sorry to let everybody down by not having a tidy analysis ready to go. I'm still chewing over it in my head, trying to put my finger on where it missed, or where I missed it. I guess I'd suggest that they were so focused on making sure that she was a badass, they forgot to allow her to be weak. It's got nothing to do with her being a woman; heroes, even superheroes --especially superheroes-- have to have a moment of real crisis or doubt. Superman needs to have that kryptonite necklace draped over him and be pushed into a swimming pool where he almost drowns. Batman has to have the futility of his violence thrown in his face by the Joker. Miles needs to fear letting everyone down. Thor must grieve his lost family and friends. When Diana kills Ludendorff and discovers that it doesn't end the War after all, she is rocked to her core. And so on. Maybe I'll catch it on a second viewing of Captain Marvel, but on my first viewing, I just didn't see that moment.

At any rate, how about a cartoon? How about this one?

I don't know about you folks, but I'm real curious to see how Captain Marvel turns out. This is the MCU's shot at a big, sprawling woman-led superhero movie, and Wonder Woman already covered a lot of that ground with a character carrying 70-odd years of history and familiarity. I've been trying to catch up with Captain Marvel, or at least get a bit more current with the character. Last time I was reading comics with her in them, she was hanging out with the X-Men and calling herself Binary while freeing whole races of subjugated space whales. I gather a fair bit has changed since then. The earlier promotion seemed to have a good grip on what they were selling, with the "her"/"a hero" text fades in the trailers. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm just unconsciously absorbing negativity from the MRA trolls on YouTube. I sure hope that's all there is to it. We'll see next week!

In the meantime, please enjoy this Bob the Angry Flower cartoon, lovingly entitled

Fri, Feb 22 - Normal Week
Hmmm... y'know folks, I don't really have anything super remarkable to talk about for this week's update. The snow was two weeks ago, so that's old news. Some people are saying they wanna be president of the United States in a couple of years, but that news is a little too new and needs to baste a bit, I think. I think I've mostly transferred operations over to my laptop from my old computer, so that's not so pressing. The new book is shaping up to be a book at the appointed time. All seems on track.

It's at times like these, therefore, that I find myself racing through a bunch of old Isaac Asimov books, and in that headlong rush, I find myself pausing to contemplate the life and times of the average everyday

I hope all you folks had a pleasing Valentine's Day, or at least a satisfactory, uncomplicated one. I'm typing this up the night before, so I can't speak for myself, but let's assume it worked out just fine and that I'm not in jail or deported or some such amusement.

It looks like I'll survive the death of ye olde computere after all, with some adjustments. My old scanner looks to be pretty much out of the game, with a few final options left to try, but thankfully the ScannerPro app for the phone seems mostly able to pick up the slack. Base scans require a bit more cleanup and attention than before, but I'll take it. So! Angryflower.com soldiers on, ever proudly, into the future via the present!

Which, naturally, brings us to this week's cartoon. It's a humdinger of a strip, a real corn-baster, tractor-grater, skin-peeler of a graphic gag, and I simply will wait no longer before presenting it to you all thusly:

Fri, Feb 8 - DAMMIT!!!
I knew it had to happen sometime, but I just hoping that time would never come. Alas, come it has: my trusty old computer, the one I brought with me to Seattle 14 years ago, appears to have given up the ghost. This is a serious bummer, not least because I have a bunch of files on it, but it's the only thing that can connect to my old but trusty scanner. Not exactly sure what I'm gonna do about that. May be spending some time on the good ol' internet, seeing if I can find Windows 10 drivers for a 20-year-old scanner. Wish me luck!

Vancouver was great, by the way. Got to see some of Keith Knight's Woke pilot get shot, some really crucial scenes, including a really gorgeous final shot. Fingers crossed on that thing going to series!

Urf, sorry, readers, for delivering to you this Friday a burble of barely-spoken nonsense regarding my thoughts about how updating the site on Fridays feels strange to me in this new world where the strips go live on the Internet on the Mondays before the Fridays, as opposed to the strips appearing stamped on sheets of disposable but easily available paper up in Edmonton every Wednesday. Last week's update was a bit early, this one's a hair late. I'm not trying to establish a rhythm with this or anything; it's just how it turned out. THanksgiving sloth will do that to you.

I drew this strip a few weeks ago, just before the mid-term elections, but my well-documented superstition regarding Bob cartoons and real-world events kicked in and prevented me from publishing it the week of the election for fear of jinxing the whole affair. I, like most, am mesmerized by the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination. I'm not sure what precise combination of factors make this particular shitshow so compelling, but I can't look away. I'm even posting about it on Facebook, something I almost never do. I think at least part of it is that Kavanaugh so easily seems to represent much of what is angering and degrading about the Trump era, but he's not Trump himself, so we're just happy to be able to look away from that swollen orange moonscape for a few days.

I think I've talked about this before, but some times in the course of doing the comic, I've found certain... let's call them resonances. Synchronicities. I'll draw a random strip, and then something will happen that somehow relates to it in a way I could't have and didn't know but that seems intentional. It can be a little spooky, like seeing the future or predestination, when these odd little co-incidences show up.

Luckily, this week nothing of the kind has happened. Quite the opposite, in fact. As I type this update, folks are largely spellbound by the disspiriting spectacle of History's Lamest Supreme Court Nominee as I'm over here posting a completely irrelevant cartoon about

Of books, that is, the forty pounds referred to in the title of this week's update. Not the ghost, mind, but the mattress. After months of having various podcasts extoll the virtues of the Casper mattress, and more months of worries about various skin-biting animals I might be sharing my sleeping hours with, I went ahead and ordered a Casper mattress on line. Oh boy oh boy, I'm looking forward to Avengers: Infinity War. I don't know if I expect it to be good, exactly, like actually good, carrying any real merit beyond being a big entertaining punch-up between a bunch of characters I've come to like. Don't know if it's that, exactly. Maybe I'm just loking forward to having already seen it so I'm not at risk of having any of its surprises spoiled for me. Yeah, that sounds more likely. There may be smoe additional enjoyment on top of this simple act of self-preservation. We'll see. Wish me luck, and I'll wish all of you the same!

In other news, there sure are some curious assertions out there, don't you think? Some really really odd statements carrying all kinds of bizarre baggage and loopy assumptions, serious head-scratchers that make you go "Hmmm!" or, if you're feeling thoughtful, "Hmmmm..." Don't believe me? Try this one on for size:

Not sure what brought on this week's strip. I'd heard about its subject some time ago, and I hadn't really thought too much of it one way or the other. And it's not like anybody brought it up to me, or I read about it, or I heard it mentioned on some TV show or movie. And it certainly not as if it's some fresh take on the idea, nor is it some notion so hilarious that, now that I've drawn this strip, my name will be etched in burning letters a thousand feet high on the great wall of cartoonists for all time. And yet, here we are, with this week's strip. Fated? Spoooky, a little? As though some terrible force wrought its awful will through me without my knowledge or consent? I'll let you all decide, as you ponder the mysteries and implications of

Kinda rainy out at the moment, here in Seattle, and I'm told that my friends and family back in Canada are enduring all sorts of wintery ass at the moment, cruel denial of much-deserved spring. Thanks a lot, uh... Obama?

In keeping with the grey weather, then, this week's isn't some searingly current or unstoppably relevant treatise on anything in particular, per se. No, this week's cartoon is simply

Fri, Mar 30 - Go Marching
It's probably too early to say if last week's gargantuan marches across the US for gun control will serve as a tipping point in a national conversation that's gone exactly nowhere so many times before. Nonetheless, I know I'm not alone in being mightily impressed at the organization and energy of all these young people, raised on the internet, who are simply not interested in putting up with this bullshit anymore. It was a fine sight. Of course, over on the right-hand side of the mediasphere, there was a lot of confusion and uncertainty about what it all meant and what these marchers' motivations could possibly have been. Folks were well and truly
Puzzled
Fri, Mar 23 - Crinkled
I was pretty excited for the new Wrinkle in Time movie, so I went ahead and did a quick re-read of the book before seeing it. I knew already that the movie was tanking by the time I drew the comic, so I wasn't going to be hooking my cartooning wagon to any great cultural moment, but dang it, that re-read of the book, rather than the watching of the movie, inspired this little gem:
A Wrinkle in a Wrinkle in Time

I was curious about the film, and the trailers looked promising, and I liked Ava Duvernay's Selma a lot. Nope. Movie not good. In retrospect, I don't think I did myself any favors by reaquainting myself with the book before seeing the film, as it just led to a considerable increase in disappointment. It really seemed to miss the mark in a lot of ways, from underselling Meg's fierce love for Charles Wallace to lowballing just how odd and exceptional Charles Wallace was. But the biggest miss, I think, came from deliberately decoupling the story from its intensely Christian roots. I'm no Christian, but I can appreciate how the Christian worldview suffuses and informs everything in that book, and if you rip out that fundamental cosmic moral structure, your ideas and metaphors are going to end up flailing about with no focus. And that's exactly what happened. Stuff that has a lot of impact in the book simply fails to land in the movie, while the occasional invention for the film almost never seems to carry any weight or help to ground it or replace the heartbeat of the book. Bummer.
Sun, Mar 18 - Late Update
Sorry for the lateness of this week's update, folks. I ended up having to extend my stay in Canada a bit, so I wasn't in a position to do my due updating dilligences like I like to. I really need to get that figured out so I can do that kind of stuff. But --not today!

Fri, Jan 26 - Off Tempo
Whoof, folkfs, as crazy as it seems that we're already three weks into 2018, I don't know what to tell ya other than that... we're three weeks into 2018.

Apparently sex scandals don't mean anything any more. Personally, I don't want to give Trump any of a harder time than I gave Clinton back in the day. At that time, I thought that infidelities were up to the President and his wife. That was their shit to deal with. And unless it had anything to do with how the country was run, it super honeslty really wasn't our business.

The garbage president fucked a porn actress a few weeks after his 3rd wife gave birth to his son? That's a betrayal of him to his wife. It's on them to deal. Does it really have anything to do with his capacity as president? Honestly, from my perspective, no. And further, it's ripping up against sex work that we need to get real and accepting of.

It certainly shows that his supporters, who supposedly cared about such "moral" issues, don't really. It displays in bright lights the hypocrisy of their moral foundations. But does it really have anything to do with how he's running or fantabulously failing to run the country? Again, I'd say no.

So what's this week's cartoon about? I don't want to spoil it. The subject --as far as I know-- isn't current this second. But it's alive and poopy and for all I know, I'll post this right when one of (t)rump's Truly awful inclinations gets all up in our public.

Given all that yimmer-yammer, I'll now simply pose a tricky question, that is:

In case anybody was wondering why it was felt necessary to do yet another cartoon version of music, the answer is simple: I've been lately obsessed with the Disney XD show Star Vs. the Forces of Evil. I've been watching it again and again, and that's not even counting buying the Star pin I've been showing off on my shirt pocket.

Why? Well, with just enough ado, allow me to recommend to you Princess Star's Princess song, shown here:
http://youtu.be/ts5y7bJFPkY

I spent enough time watching this show, which I love, and thinking about music, which I also love, and wondering and feeling bad that as much as I love Bob the Angry Flower (and despite all self-hating accounts, I really really do!), I fell asleep knowing that Bob just wasn't enough enough to inspire a song. So it seemed necessary to write some terrible give-up lyrics just to try out what it would be like to imagine if Bob (Bob!) had a song. Hence this week's strip. I hope y'all enjoy!

Fri, Nov 10 - Thor Good
That's not actually a quote from the movie, but it could have been; one of the fun things about it is that it digs a bit into the friendship/rivalry between Thor and Hulk. We finally get a Hulk who can talk in one of these movies, and while he doesn't have the biggest vocabulary, he can be surprisingly eloquent when he busts out one of the 20 or 30 words he knows.

A lot of fun, Thor: Ragnarok, though I almost missed it on account of the AMC Theatre having the sound turned way too low on my first viewing. Luckily I went and saw it a second time, with the correct audio; turns out that make all the difference. I suspected as much. It seemed well out of order that a movie with a Mark Mothersbaugh score, particularly a Thor movie, would make no aural impression. Get the sound on properly and we're good to go.

I'm keeping current with the new Treks these days. That is, I'm watching Star Trek: Discovery and I'm also watching The Orville. Both of them feel sort of like Trek and sort of not like Trek, but in completely different ways. ST:D (man, that's an unfortunate acronym) seems wildly out of whack with the original series, which it's supposed to prefigure by a mere 10 years. Apparently the show runners say that the idea is to show a journey, to get us from where they're at now to something like where the original show started. Meanwhile, The Orville is like Star Trek: The Next Generation with two digits of the serial number filed off and replaced with elaborately tiresome jokes about Seth McFarlane being an asshole to or about his ex-wife. Both shows are in early stages, and for any fans of Trek out there, you know that Trek series tend to take a few episodes (or seasons) to get their footing and figure themselves out. To my considerable shock, I'd say that as of this moment The Orvillle is slightly ahead of the game. I just watched an episode that, while as clumsy and simple-minded as the previous ones, actually featured something of an interesting Star Trekky dilemma. Certainly, Seth McFarlane would not be my first or tenth or fiftieth choice as the guy to deliver a nuanced investigation into the intersection of religion and violence. In fact I'm pretty sure it's horrible, but it was there and it showed a willingness to take a crack at it. I'm curious to see how this situation develops.

In other sci-fi news, we just got a unasked-for sequel to a 35-year-old classic. How was it? Hmmmm.....

Fri, Sep 7 - The Post-Penultimate Jedi
It's strange being a middle-aged Star Wars fan and coming to the realization that I barely care about the new Star Wars film coming out this December. Oh, I'll go, no doubt, and I'll spend some hours talking through it with my Star Warsy friends, but after The Force Awakens I have little burning interest in how the whole Rey/Ren/Finn/Poe dealio ends up shaking out. Who is Snoke? Is Luke evil now? Who dies? I'm just not all that fired up about it. Maybe that'll change as the movie approaches, but for now I'm largely indifferent.

That said, I have been bumping into mentions of the film in my various Internet purusings, and so I'm gradulally becoming aware of a storm, a storm of slowly gathering force, one from which I fear there shall be no escape. A storm of

Fri, Aug 18 - Rough Week
Yeah, this one's been a bit of a pounder. It's not as though, in absolute terms, this week was truly much more horrible than many that have come before it. A woman died during a protest, but as they say, people die all the time, for reasons just as or more appalling. So why does this week feel like such a particular drag?

It's not as though Trump hasn't been awful before. He has, and he'll be again in the future. We'll likely look back at this week and wish we could get back to this era of relative peace and innocence, when the worst thing going was the President of the United States merly struggling and failing to distance himself from Nazis. Seems like that would not be hard, but here we are, and who knows where we're going.

I did this strip last Sunday, and I didn't anticipate Dear Leader's full-bodied refusal to back away from murdering white supremacists. Such may be beyond the President's ability, so this week's strip is a bit off-angle on that particular pustule, but I think it's still worth it to consider some others and what it takes to

Fri, Aug 11 - Delayed Reaction
So when I'm down in San Diego manning the table, I've got a line of patter. It goes much like this:

"So you come to the Con, right, and you've got a bunch of stuff that you're here to get. And you go and get that stuff. In addition, though, there's stuff you pick up, either some handed to you, or something you glanced at and decided to give a try. And then you go back to your hotel room, and you look at your pile of stuff. And the stuff you were there to get, that's great, you enjoy your finds and that's great. But then you dig through the pile of other stuff, the whims and whatnots, to see what they're like. And, if you're very lucky, you'll find something that makes you go, 'Holy Crap, this is AMAZING! How have I not heard of this before? I must tell everybody about this cool thing I found!' "

At this point, I pause and point down at the books in front of me.

"This, my friends, is THAT THING. It's the real deal, the seroius chili flavor." And so on. I go on and so on in that manner.

Well, I just discovered my That Thing for San Diego Comic-Con, and as the title of this update suggests, it was delayed. I'd picked up a Free Comic Day free comic over at the Oni Booth, read it, and though, "Hey, this seems pretty good, I should order some of the books." I did so order, and they arrived today, and they are Cracking. Me. UP.

It's called Bad Machinery by John Allison out of Oni Press, and, I guess, his own 访问国外网站加速方法 web site. I sat at the bar back patio reading the first book, The Case of the Team Spirit, and I swear I was providing an ongoing laugh track to everybody else's converstation, chortling and snickering and guffawing on the regular. Great, great stuff. You should check it out; you'll be glad you did.

Damn, you really gotta be quick these days. I'd toyed with the idea of doing a cartoon about national embarrassment Antony Scaramucci, but I thought I'd give it a week or two to let it simmer. Too slow, Notley! Indeed, pretty much all of us were caught off guard by The Mooch's whirlwind departure, though it's no surprise that Ruben Bolling of the always-on Tom the Dancing Bug managed to get the knife in just before the untold deadline. Ah, well. One wins some and one loses some.

After having not drawn a strip for two weeks on account of Comic-Con, I ended up easing back in a little more slowly than I might have liked. If nothing else, I figure I can count on a bit more longevity in describing the exciting exploits of

Hi, folks, hope you're having a good, decent, not overwhelmingly too hot summer for reasons that absolutely cannot be attributed to humankind's enthusiastic belching of warming gasses into the air!

After all, anyone talking about how we are driving our global ship of state off a cliff must by needs be jealous, greedy, envious, resentful towards the everyday folks who are just trying to make a living and who are struggling every day. What else could possibly motivate these libby scoundrels?

Well, I can't speak to that particular issue at this moment. The issue at this moment towards which I can direct some attention is the shiny new existence of the tenth Bob the Angry Flower book (seen above)!

What the devil??? Another book? How can this be? Simple, really. Two years have elapsed since the last book, so two years of cartoon-drawing has led, inevitably, to content to fill and oblige another book.

Reasonable Doubt
Fri, May 26 - Trusting Our Government
Well, I as a Canadian, I must admit, I like the notion that government and public service is not inherently awful. Going from Canada to America, the big thing is that Americans simply don't trust or believe in their goverment. Americans view government as just another big bunch of folks trying to eff them over; government is not a thing that Americans feel that they're a part of. Stuff in Canada we call public, and Canadians like and feel a part of public stuff... in America, those same things are described as government stuff, and in America, nobody trusts anybody. Certainly not the government. Nobody believes in the idea of all of us helping each other, and we hella hella absolutely DO NOT think the government could be a part of us getting our poop together.
As a Canadian, watching this sorta stuff play out northwards, I feel both jealous and lazy.

Regardless of all this what's going on right this moment, hey, ho! How do you folks feel about a weekly Bob the Angry Flower cartoon? As much as I'm interested in how you feel, your feelings are irrelevant in the face of

Fri, May 19 - Obstruction
I'm hardly a lawyer. I'm not even an Internet lawyer. I do not know how lawyers drop cases on people and how they prepare to do such things. I am merely a funny cartoonist. And yet... and yet, as a cartoonist, I wonder about the legal aspects of what seems to be happening these days, as we ask about our President. Given my wonderings and worryings, here's a cartoon that steps back, takes a deep breath, and really considers the interests of

Fri, May 12 - Known Unknown Unknowns
Golly, all kindsa crazy is going on this week in the American Government, what with the president apparently openly committing obstruction of justice by firing the cop in charge of investigating his crazy who-knows-what's-up-shit Russia stuff.

Folks, me included, are leaping back to the Nixon era to see how all that poop played out, wondering if it'll play out again, or if it won't, simply because as long as you can fire all the cops investigating you, you're good! And who can fire you? Well, if you're the president, nobody other than Congress can do that, and if the folks in congress don't want to get rid of you, or don't want to themselves be exposed, they can can the cops as much as they like until, I dunno, they are up again for re-election. Can they smooth all this down and rely on voters to forget and not give a shit? Stay tuned, humans!

Given all the mysteries currently in play, I'm not surprised to present this active, lively cartoon, one hitting all the bases, this strip entitled

Fri, May 5 - May-ee-ayy-EE
Sorry folks, that I don't have a good story to tell about May 5, May Day plus four. And I certainly have nothing useful to say about Cinco de Mayo, much closer to May 5.

I barely even have a story for today. I've heard that many describe it as Cinco de Mayo, and man, I hope they're right. If they do, they have tons of stuff and days to say and talk about. Man --and woman-- and trans and all other gender folks, ah, uh... sorry for being so dumb and un-understanding.

Outside of all that, here's a Bob the Angry Flower cartoon, pushing real as best possible, asking questions, failing to answer them, once and always wondering what we might maybe get from our heroes, our wonderfolk, our only friends, our

Fri, April 21- 40/20 a bit late
Oops, sorry readers, I'm updating this strip a day after it's supposed to be current! That is to say, Aprl 20, 4:20 in the afternoon is supposed to be when we all bail out of our jobs, go outside, and huff a big ol' huff of marijuana. It's a nice date, and a nice inclination, and a good moment for everybody to consider and evaluate and perhaps participate in the smoking-of, the getting high-of-, the pleasure and fun of being cool with yourselves and everybody that partaking of grass offen offers.

Given all that, here's a Bob the Angry Flower cartoon that both celebrates this notion and also notes that this notion is getting quite a bit of strength in individual states that have decided that pot-smoking isn't such a really bad thing, really.

Those states are doing their own poop with the weeds and such, and in our United States, it's important to allow them to do it. So, given that, let us sit back, smoke a bit, drink a bit, consider how much we think the federal government should be able to tell ever-body what to do, lean back and acknowledge

Fri, April 14- Explosions!
Oh, golly, everybody, I don't know what to say about explosions other than we really like them! Right current there are a pack of news stories about our United States dropping some MOABs on folks and places in Afghanistan. Do we like it? Are we pleased? Honestly, I'm not keeping up enough. All I can do is heap scorn on Brian Williams of NBC and his horrific comments, as we see here

Fri, April 7- Now April and Spring!
Yep, times have come and are going -- it's getting into springtime!

Regardless of where you are (not counting the southern hemishpere, of course), you're seeing more light, longer days, bigger walks into what we and many other poets have called springtime! That is to say, that part of the year where we and the rest of the living systems on Earth (again, excluding the southern hemishere) start popping their spoop up with expectation for more light, more day and more opporutnities to, you know, get down. Get with all that shit. You know.... start making new living things!

Given all that, I guess I'll just say that I dig alla that. I'm super into making new stuff. Indeed, this month I need to get my poop together to create a brand new Bob book for Comic-Con 2017.

I had, just this evening, a revelation about that new Bob book. That revelation changed a lot of things about what the book was gonna be. Shall I get into it right this second? I'd like to, but I'm updating this site right this second too drunk to really get into it. So I'll simply offer this new strip:

But today, this April, I got fairly excited about what's coming up on the Bob the Angry Flower front. Mostly about the next new book. Mostly about how what I'd said ealier, months earlier, about the title and cover of the book, turned out to be so, so wrong. I hate to correct myself for all you readers, and I will soon enough! Until then, ah, enjoy the silly cartoon exposed above!

No, I can't just bibble and babble about the new book that's on its way; here's an image for the new book. It's gonna be X, it's gonna be 10, it's gonna be TEN, it's gonna be something like what you see below,

The next and tenth Bob the Angry Flower book is gonna look a fair bit like:

Fri, Mar 31 - Still March
Uff, oof, urf and such likewise! How can it still be May, the month, with so many weeks having happened prior? Ugh. This weird strange bit of the year where our months are highly npredictable, regardless of our knowledge or ignorance of the the Old English "Thirty days, has September," et cetera and so on.

Regardless! This is the final month of Mardch, 2017. And as such, it deserves and requires a Bob the Angry Flower cartoon. All weeks do and must until I die. Happily, I'm not yet dead, so we all have another cartoon on the week, and it's this:

Fri, Mar 24 - Our Collective
And here we go again, dear readers, another weekly update! You, waiting with all the powers of your desire for another Bob the Angry Flower cartoon; me, creating one with desperate hope that nobody was looking forward to one! Golly-gosh, what a conundrum, we find, between creator and audience! Holy Hell, and how can one even use those terms, as spiritual as they are! Oof! It's a hard sell, I tell you, spiritual and secular readers alike! Each time I sit down to draw a cartoon, I don't know if I should swing one way or the other!

Thankfully, this week's cartoon doesn't really engage on that level. It's another comfy and soft and hateful Bob the Angry Flower cartoon that really doesn't get into serious differences that divide us. It's fair soft core, in my estimation, and it makes the again-and-again mistake of talking about something current and having Bob be a character in it. How much better would these cartoons be if we didn't ask readers to sign on to the idea of an agry flower character instead of a stick figure? How much more viral? The answer, I am confident, is, "TONS."

Regardless, here we are at the Bob the Angry Flower cartoon weekly web page. And as we arrive here, we will find cartoons. Cartoons such as this:

About this week's cartoon, that is. I suspect it may be completely meaningless to anybody who isn't a fan of a particular brand of British Columbian dairy products. On the other hand, a friend just texted out of the blue today to tell me that it was funny, which doesn't happen very often. So, I don't really know how it's gonna play. Let's find out! Fri, Mar 10 - Early Light-Time Savings Hours
Folks, I'm as surprised as anybody to hear at the bar that this weekend is the time when we do our Daylight Savings Time shift. Back when days are getting shorter, we love them. Nights get longer, days get shorter, an extra hour is precicely what we want. An extra hour on Sunday, and then when we go to work on Monday, well, shit, it's already dark out when we arrive and dark when we leave... let's go all in!

This weekend we have the obverse. We get one less hour than we had before. A day of waking up earlier. A litle dose of jet lag even without the fun of scooting around the globe. It's a rough sacrifice. Nobody wants to get up earlier and plug into the marvelous machine of capital an hour earlier, an hour taken from our family time, our sleeptime, our dreamtime.

Regardless, it's happening! And, sucky as it feels, at least for those of use in the more northern climes, there is a benefit. We do give up one of our precious hours, no question. But we suddenly get back in return the glorious gift of sunlight when we're leaving work. Of course, this only applies to those of us who do the 9-5ish system; few folks get that luxury, and many more must needs pop up and spend their hours outside of our sun's daily gift. But even then, the good side this weekend is that, for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, we give up a despearately needed hour on our weekend, but from then on, we're better aligned with the sun. Sun's coming up before we get up, sun's going down after we leave work. Days are getting longer regardless, but the Daily Savings Time switch gives us an alignment we likely like.

Why am I babbling about times and dates and suns and times again? Hmmmm... not sure. But I'm decently sure that all this biffle has some kind of connection, some kind of necessary connection, to

Fri, Feb 24 - Fun and then sum
Woof! Whew! Golly! And then some! The new President of the US has been brightly shitty, hasn't he? Just sucking on general, and sucking on specifics...

Simple shit like knowing how the government works seems to have escaped his understanding! He seems to think that being president is the same as being a CEO...

One wonders how much he really understood about what it meant to be a CEO.

Normal companies have their own systems of rules. CEOs, by which we mean Chief Exectutive Officers, have shitloads of authority. But their authority is not absolute.

Or, in a non-publicly traded corporatation, that authority IS absolute. I'll confess right here and right now that I don't know the ins and outs of corporate law and to what extent CEOs get to do whatever they like inside the company without ever having to worry about whether any of it runs up against laws.

Well, whoof, whatavah. I don't know. I'm as puzzled as the rest of you about how all this poop is gonna roll out. In the meantime, please allow me to present Bob the Angry Flower's urgent problem, an economic one, one called

And I didn't just lie related to what I'd said before, I lied at the moment. I lied when I was drawing it, because I didn't even spend a lot of time being witty or wry or particularly hilarious. Fri, Jan 06 - Into the Day
Well, here we all go, folks! In a couple of weeks we'll see what a toxic Republican congress can get Trump to push through before he realizes that all that shit is incredibly unpopular, and Our Donald hates being unpopular. It's still a bit weird that Trump never picked up on how the Number 1 job of the President of the United States was to be the guy that every blamed for everything. Somehow Trump didn't realize this even as he was doing it, dispestecting and throwing shade at Preident Obama the whole time.

The question I've been asking myself has been, "What are they gonna fuck up FIRST?"

Was it gonna be Obamacare? Was it gonna be Net Neutrality? Was it gonna be a big ol' juicy "Religious Freedom" act to declare open season on any kinda bigotry you want?

I guess we know; Congressional Republicans have been trampling over and over on their dicks on the idea of repealing Obamacare for years asnd years. Threre's no way any of them can pause and think for a second. And maybe a few did. But it passed 48-52. So here we go, folks! I hope you got a lot of money right now! Well, folks and cats, here we are, a mere couple of weeks from the end of 2016. I've drawn cartoons against the ghastness, but my cartoons failed to make a difference.

So now we all must go into the ghastliness, we all have to dive into the worst stuff ever. Or no-- Wait! Can't we ask the Electoral College to step up and do what those Founders created it for?

No. Or rather, we can ask the Electoral College to overturn the shitty, shitty, shitty vote... but I can't get behind it doing so. As much as I dislike the Electoral Collecge, and as much as it was built to preserve slaveholder privilege... it's the law. Do we want to over turn the law? I.... I.... I....

I'd rather keep the law than blow it away. I'm scared of my position, right now, where it seems like the law system has delivered all the constitutional power to horrible, assholish, awful shitheads who want to do nothing but tear rights away from workers and women and people just hoping to live and have the society say it's not okay to beat brains out so many, and shouldn't there be a system that recognizes that and tightens the reins so it can't be so?

And if it doesn't, damn it, heads will have to be cracked. Maybe mine. Probably mine, especially if I'm too weak and unwilling to stand on the right side. And even if I'm on the right side... am I ready to start crackng heads?

Damn, damn, damn... I wish that the system resulted in the outcomes that makes sense to me. I wish it did. But it didn't. And I've spent all year saying I prefer the system rather than just burning the whole otherfuckker down., that I prefer to put out the fire rather than burn burn burn. And part of my insistence is and always has been that the system, as built, should be maintained. And as much as I despise Trump and his preposterous crew, I have to say that I liked the system and not who was running it.

So does that mean that, ultimately, I'm saying, "Give them a chance"? Ug, Ug, Ug, but yes, that is what I'm saying. I'd rather reform than revolutionize, or hold and hold back. I'd rather put out the house fire than encourage it, I'd rather fix than destroy.

I say this because, damn, I have a lot to lose, and I'd rather not lose it. But I can't say against folks who want to fight and burn.

Urf, urf, so on and so forth. Sorry, Bob the Angry Flower readers, sorry to admit I'm not strong and standing up to fight. I'm scared and new like all of us, and I don't know what to say.

Fri, Dec 9- No, We're All Cool
Aren't we, all cool right now? Yeah, sure, we all saw the trump collect electoral votes, and somehow he'll be our president next year, doncha know. And he's shown that he can't possibly be that guy, but a little less than half the country wants him wants him wants him, no matter how unsuitable, no matter how many lies, they want him because they hate hate HATE the other side, they want him, and it don't matter how much he lies cuz He Never Lied and She Always Lied, dot dot dot
